Eve Burton

Eve Burton is an Executive Vice President of Hearst Corporation, Chief Legal Officer and the co-founder and Chairwoman of HearstLab. She is a member of Hearst’s board of directors, the AETN board of directors and of Hearst’s Venture Committee.

Burton created HearstLab in 2016 with the mission to bring visibility and opportunity to women leaders, facilitate innovation, and create value from early-stage investments. With a proven record of inspiring a creative and collaborative culture, HearstLab’s growing portfolio of exclusively women-led companies is currently valued at over $2B collectively.

Burton is also a member of Hearst’s Venture Committee, which invests in digital and other initiatives on a global scale.  Founded in 1995, the group has grown to become one of the most active and successful corporate venture funds with more than $1B invested to date.

Burton is a director of Intuit, Inc. and previously served on the board of directors of AOL until its sale to Verizon. She is a member of the advisory board of the David and Helen Gurley Brown Institute for Media Innovation at Stanford and Columbia Universities and is a member of The Council of Foreign Affairs.

Prior to joining Hearst, Burton served as Chief Legal Counsel at Cable News Network (CNN), where she oversaw all legal matters relating to news and programming on CNN’s networks and websites. From 1995 to 2000, Burton was at the New York Daily News as the deputy general counsel. She began her career at the law firm of Weil, Gotshal & Manges after serving as a law clerk for the Hon. Leonard B. Sand in the United States District Court of New York. Burton was a Fulbright Research Scholar at Thammasat University in Bangkok and is a graduate of Columbia University Law School.
